Client Overview

Voco Hotels, part of the IHG Group, is committed to providing an exceptional guest experience while supporting sustainability initiatives. As the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) continues to rise, Voco Hotels sought to enhance their service offering by installing EV charging stations across their properties in Oxford—Voco Thames and Voco Spires.

“The EV charging stations installed by ZOLB EV have been a fantastic addition to our facilities. They’re easy to use, reliable, and support our commitment to sustainability. Guests appreciate the convenience, and we’ve seen an increase in bookings from EV owners.”

General Managers, Voco Thames & Voco Spires, Oxford

The Challenge

Both Voco Thames and Voco Spires hotels in Oxford had existing EV charging infrastructure that was either outdated or not functional, and the hotels needed a reliable solution to meet the growing demand from their guests. As more corporate and leisure travelers drive electric vehicles, Voco Hotels recognized the need to offer seamless, accessible charging facilities to remain competitive and aligned with their sustainability goals.

Voco sought a single Electric Vehicle Charging Point Operator (CPO) to manage the installation and operation of new charging points across both sites. The goal was to ensure that guests could easily charge their EVs during their stay, while also offering a modern, efficient solution that would work seamlessly with the hotel’s existing infrastructure.

Solution

ZOLB EV was chosen as the solution provider due to their expertise in providing comprehensive EV charging solutions. As a CPO, ZOLB EV handled every aspect of the project, from the initial installation to ongoing support and software management. This included:

EV Charging Infrastructure Installation & Replacement

ZOLB EV installed double socket AC 22kW chargers, with each socket providing 22kW of power, allowing for a full charge during an overnight stay. This installation ensures that guests with EVs can charge their vehicles overnight and be ready for the journey the following day.

Seamless Charging Experience

ZOLB EV integrated their proprietary software onto the terminals, enabling both app-based and contactless (Pay-As-You-Go) payment options for users. This software also provides valuable reports and data for the hotel, assisting in billing and revenue distribution. The user-friendly interface ensures that guests can easily charge their vehicles with minimal hassle.

Sustainability and Guest Convenience

The installation of EV charging stations at Voco St. David’s supports the hotel’s broader sustainability goals by promoting the use of electric vehicles. It also provides an added benefit to guests, who are increasingly seeking hotels that offer EV charging facilities. Many booking platforms now advertise EV charging availability, making it essential for hotels to offer this service to attract eco-conscious guests.

Result

With the installation of the new EV charging stations, both Voco Thames and Voco Spires have been able to meet the demands of their guests, offering a reliable and convenient charging solution. The stations are now in high use, with guests benefiting from the ability to fully charge their vehicles during their stay, without needing to worry about finding external charging points.

The integration of ZOLB EV’s software also ensures that both the hotel management and guests enjoy a smooth and seamless experience, with easy payment options and real-time data on energy usage and billing.

The successful installation of EV charging stations in Oxford highlights the importance of providing modern, sustainable amenities in the hospitality sector. By partnering with ZOLB EV, Voco Hotels has enhanced its guest offering, supported its sustainability goals, and ensured that their Oxford properties remain competitive in a market that increasingly values eco-friendly services. The case serves as a prime example of how hotels can adapt to meet the needs of a growing demographic of EV-driving travelers, while also supporting broader environmental initiatives.
